Newly qualified IFA sets her sights on retirement

March 18, 2022

Financial adviser, Lindsey Jones, joined the Suckling Waddington and Partners (SWP) team in November 2020, after a long career in banking with roles at Nationwide, Abbey National and Santander.

Wife & mum of two boys, Lindsey, lives with her football crazy family in Upton Upon Severn where she spends her spare time supporting her boys who both play for local football teams.

She started her career in financial services as a customer service adviser in 2002 and moved onto to be a customer relationship manager, dealing with high value clients and working alongside financial planners. Lindsey spoke with clients about the benefits of Investing and referred them onto the planner – this was when she first started thinking about becoming an adviser, as a lot of the time it felt like she should be the one who should do the investing!

As her sons grew up and started school, Lindsey used the additional time to increase her working hours and started studying for the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning whilst continuing to work at Santander, with a view to becoming an adviser. However, due to the pandemic, these roles were made redundant.

Despite this, Lindsey was still keen to continue her career as an adviser as family members had been swindled by a financial adviser in the past and she has made it her personal mission to help people, showing them what is possible with the money they have and how they can make the best of it.

SWP was attractive to Lindsey as it offered a great first step into becoming a Financial adviser - an employed role, with a supportive admin team at SWP and the added benefit of compliance and support from MPA.

Although she had three exams left to complete when she was interviewed with Gary Cowley at SWP, she was offered the job and joined the team in November 2020. And, as unfortunate as lockdown was for lots of reasons, it gave Lindsey the opportunity to study for the final exams.

Now a qualified and authorised financial adviser, Lindsey is now progressing towards Chartered status, with the first exam on pension transfers. Based on her experience over the past 12 months Lindsey is now keen to broaded her knowledge on ‘at retirement’ clients, as pension planning is something she finds really interesting and wants to develop a niche in this area.

As a people person, she loves finding out what makes people tick and what is most important to them. She really enjoys understanding the reason why people want to invest, the goals they want to achieve, and helping them get there.
