Wealth management is a dynamic and rewarding industry focussed on providing financial advice to individuals, families, companies and charities to help them achieve their financial ambitions.

Whilst many people believe that a background in finance or economics is essential to pursue a career in wealth management, at SWP we believe that having the right personal qualities, enthusiasm, transferable skills, and a desire to learn are more important.

Many members of our team have joined SWP having had careers in other sectors – but they have all had the right personal qualities and work ethic to make their transition into the financial services industry a success. Whether they are client facing financial advisers, paraplanners or part of our excellent administration team, all have the following qualities.

If you believe you have the attributes to be successful at SWP, we would love to hear from you.

Excellent Personal Skills

In wealth management, the ability to build strong relationships with clients and colleagues is essential. Empathy, excellent communication skills, and a genuine desire to help clients are some of the personal qualities we look for. Clients entrust us with their financial futures, so it is essential that all staff act with integrity, are honest and adhere to the CII’s code of conduct.

Enthusiasm and Drive

Having enthusiasm and a desire to succeed is essential and something we look for in all our employees. And you do not need to have previous experience in financial services to want to learn and succeed! If you are joining from a ‘non finance’ background, then there will be a learning curve to understand the sector and our business, but if you have the enthusiasm, we can provide the training and personal development opportunities to ensure you are successful.

Transferable Skills

One of the advantages of a career in wealth management is the diversity of jobs available and the variety of necessary skills. This means skills picked up in other industries will still be necessary, and something we would look for at SWP. For example, for roles within our admin team, people with backgrounds in customer service or within administrative roles in other sectors, such as law, could thrive. Strong organisational skills and the ability to work as a team are necessary in many careers, and something we value highly at SWP.

Education and Training Opportunities

While prior experience is not a prerequisite, it’s essential to acknowledge the value of education and training at SWP. If you have a desire to learn, we will support you. To ensure we continue to deliver an excellent service to our customers, continual professional development is part and parcel of life at SWP.
